What's different about this university is that we directly admit students into academic majors.

You know, at most colleges and universities across the United States, when they apply to the institution, they're admitted, and for the first couple years, they take general education type courses.

Not so here.

Welcome everyone to ask admissions.

We're here at Florida Tech in beautiful Melbourne, Florida.

I'm here with the Executive Director of Admissions here, Mike Perry.

There's anything you want to learn about admissions.

This is the guy to talk to.

So first of all, thanks for taking a little bit of time.

Thanks for having the college tour here.

It's good to be back because, you know, this is episode two of the college tour, absolutely.

And now we're back for Episode 126, I'm excited.

Yeah, it's so good to be we love I mean, your students here are.

It's everything that, the innovation, the excitement, everything that happens here.

But maybe let's start off with because then you have to watch this episode.

Go back and watch the first episode.

We do a floor tech.

But I love your view.

Who is the perfect student that will thrive here, somebody that's technically orientated and knows what they want to do.

We do not get a lot of undecided students here.

We get students that are passionate about creating and doing things, people that want to be astronauts, that want to be marine biologists or ocean engineers or civil engineers, you know, building city systems and so forth.

So they come here with a passion.

They come here with a focus.

And they generally have pretty good math and science backgrounds, yeah.

Well, if you go back to see, you know, season one episode too.

I mean, the stories of these students.

I mean, I'll never forget, you know, Alyssa Carson.

And I mean, she was, you know, she was like, I want you the first female to Mars.

And now I see her, I'm like, Super Bowl commercials and dumb commercials.

That's just, you know, so the students here that you can just tell the passion they have, but you're right, little math and science, you know, it's, it's unbelievable how much you get involved Alyssa, if you see her today, she is phenomenal.

She is continuing on to what she pledged to do when she first got here, and she's going to get herself to Mars.

I can almost guarantee it.

But, you know, the students here, they come here and they participate and they're successful in what they want to do.

It's so wonderful to see them go on and be succeed in life once they leave here.

Yeah.

Well, you all do such a great job of fostering that, you know, fine, you know, it's obviously, it's students that know what they want and they want to go after and they're in that tech space or wherever, but you all do such a great job what's different, or what's like, okay, they're watching this episode.

Maybe they're watching this like, what's the next step?

What is potentially different in the admissions process here at Florida Tech?

What was different about this university is that we directly admit students into academic majors.

You know, at most colleges and universities across the United States, when they apply to the institution, they're admitted, and for the first couple years, they take general education type courses.

Not so here, here, when students apply for admissions, they're applying directly to a major.

It could be aerospace engineering, it could be marine biology.

It could be Aviation Management with flight.

And they start taking, if they're admitted and they enroll, they start taking coursework in their field of study as soon as they get here.

And they, in essence, study it all four years.

So they're coming out of here experts in their field and in the passion and what they want to do and so forth.

So when people apply for admissions, they declare a major at the time of admissions, and we review the application, depending on what they said they want to be.

So the way we look at an application for aerospace engineer.
